About WaterSafe

“In the Winter of 2016, Dr. Kristen McCabe (EMS Medical Director for Flagler County) and Jim Caggiano (Coordinator for Flagler County Fire Rescue) discussed what should be done to reduce the number of childhood deaths due to drowning.  The idea to hold an annual water safety day grew out of that discussion. The Belle Terre Swim and Racquet club, which is owned by Flagler Schools, quickly signed on as the host facility and the first WaterSafe was held on April 30th 2016. Since then, we have held our event every year, with the biggest turn-out this year! As of August of 2019, WaterSafe is a not-for-profit corporation. We hope that this upcoming year we are able to provide even more than the 225+ swim lessons for children we did in 2021! WaterSafe is more than just our annual event! WaterSafe is a year-long initiative to educate the community about sun and water safety. Drowning is a preventable tragedy, and together, we can save lives!”
